History of the 41 Footer

The history of the 41 foot boat goes back again to that 8 foot beam 24 foot boat that Don built for Doc Magoon. He took the 8 foot beam and used it on his new 35 footer. He then stretched that to a 39 footer. He once again changed the length by blocking the 39 mold at 37.6 and pulling Ajac Hawk out of it. This boat was introduced to the public in Argentina at the World Championship in 1978, with Jerry Jacoby driving and Bobby Saccenti throttling. This boat was the beginning of the line that was known as the famous 38 Top Gun series.

When Don sold Cigarette, he moved across the street and begn a a new company called Squadron XII. The number 12 indicated the number of boats he was allowed to build each year under his non-compete sales agreement. He started with a 39 footer with an 8 foot beam and built a race boat called Apache. Bobby Saccenti was the throttleman and the boat went right out and began winning races, keeping up the legacy of Don's designs.

In the early 80's, Don once again stretched the same basic 8 foot beam design to 41 feet in length. He built new molds and was ready to extend his model line. Once again, Bob Saccenti figured into the mix here, as he was just starting a new boat company called Apache. He purchased the new 41 molds, and began building the first of the famous 41 foot Apaches. This boat be the last World Championship design of Don Aronow.

There are several old 41 foot Apache molds out in the world right now being used by various boat manufacturers. What makes our set so special? Ours have the latest in high speed design with the addition of steps in the hull and design modifications to the chine areas. Our 41 is the next chapter in the legacy of such a famous boat ... we truly have the 41 for the 21st Century.

Based on a personal relationship with Charlie McCarthy that goes back over 35 years, we also have Bob Saccenti to personally oversee the production of your custom 41. Bob will make sure that your boat is built to the same high exacting standards that have brought this design so many rough water victories over the years. It is time for a new chapter to be written ... are you the one to write it?
